Tottenham news: Jose Mourinho’s Instagram account is the unexpected gift that keeps on giving

You never quite know what you’re going to get with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham at the moment.

Spurs have produced some fantastic performances in recent weeks - including the 7-2 win over Maccabi Haifa and the 6-1 victory away at Manchester United - but they’re also capable of capitulating or failing to turn up, as was the case on Thursday evening.

Jose Mourinho was fuming with his team’s performance as they slumped to a surprise 1-0 defeat away at Royal Antwerp in the Europa League.

Tottenham deployed a strong starting XI - featuring the likes of Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Gareth Bale - but a first-half goal from Lior Refaelov earned the hosts all three points.

“My future choices are going to be very easy,” Mourinho said, per BBC Sport, after the match. "I would like to have made 11 changes at half-time.”

The Portuguese coach added: "I don't want to analyse individuals. I don't like to do that.

"We have a big squad with lots of good players.

"It's my responsibility to give them opportunities to play and catch the chance with both hands and be in condition to ask for more.”

Mourinho then uploaded a photo of himself sat on the Tottenham team bus alongside the caption: “Bad perfomances deserve bad results. Hope everyone in this bus is as upset as I am. Tomorow 11 AM training.”

If you’re not one of Mourinho’s 682,000 Instagram followers, then you’re missing out. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Here are some of our favourite Instagram posts from Jose so far…

Here’s the revered Portuguese tactician being tested for Covid-19 in June.

And here’s Mourinho casually having a quick read of Hristo Stoichkov’s autobiography.

In September, the eagle-eyed Tottenham boss noticed during a Europa League fixture that Shkendija’s goalposts were too low and asked for them to be changed.

This was Mourinho getting himself into position to show off some Adidas gear.

And here, Jose wasn’t quite sure why he was holding three Europa League footballs.

After beating Burnley 1-0 on Monday night, Mourinho was baffled by the behaviour of his players inside the dressing room.

And a meme was born ahead of Tottenham’s ill-fated trip to Belgium this week.

There hasn’t been much to smile about in 2020, but we hope Mourinho continues to bring a little joy into our lives - inadvertently or otherwise - via the medium of Instagram.
