Former undefeated, undisputed world champion, Floyd Mayweather has revealed who he believes is the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world right now. Many fight fans would expect Mexican star – and former Mayweather opponent – Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to top that list, but ‘Money’ Mayweather had another fighter in mind.“As of right now, I would have to put Terence Crawford as number one,” the former champion told ESPN.Crawford has amassed a remarkable record, currently sitting undefeated at 36-0, with 27 of those wins coming by stoppage. He also holds the WBO World Welterweight Title. The Nebraska native is set to fight Sheffield man, Kell Brook, on November 14 in Las Vegas.Bookmakers, experts and fans are all expecting an emphatic Crawford win, but ‘Special K’ will hope to upset the odds.

Crawford has always fared well against British fighters in the past. Back in 2014, he travelled to Glasgow to win his WBO title from then-holder, Ricky Burns and – just last year – he dispatched Bolton’s Amir Khan in six rounds.

Mayweather also made the case for a fighter he manages, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, to be considered in the pound-for-pound listings. Mayweather said: “We can put Tank up there, in the top 10, in the pound-for-pound.”

He cited Davis’ win over Yuriorkis Gamboa, a fighter who Crawford also defeated.

Davis is unbeaten, with a 23-0 record. Remarkably, 22 of those wins came inside the distance.

Davis is set to face Leo Santa Cruz this weekend. It’s a pay-per-view bout for US viewers, but is available for free in the UK on Channel 5.

Mayweather did also offer credit to his former opponent, Canelo, who is thought by many boxing pundits to be the world’s number one.

His only defeat came against Mayweather himself and the Mexican has won titles from welterweight, right up to light heavyweight.
