Conor McGregor has teased fans with a series of cryptic social media posts. The Irish MMA star promised “big news”.

Many fight fans are expecting the announcement of a bout against Dustin Poirier.

Poirier posted an image including himself and McGregor, alongside some other top UFC fighters, on Instagram. The caption reads: “Game of Thrones”.

Both fighters have also posted tweets recently, featuring a smiley emoji on McGregor’s part and a diamond emoji on Poirier’s.

Meanwhile, McGregor’s latest Instagram post said “Big News Coming!” However, it also made reference to his new “systems of training”, so it’s entirely possible the news could be based around his fitness brand, rather than a fight.

Fight fans will know to take this with a pinch of salt, as there have been plenty of rumours swirling over potential McGregor fights over the last year. There were even suggestions that he would return to the boxing ring to take on Manny Pacquiao.

Rumours suggest that a rematch between McGregor and Poirier could headline the first big UFC show of next year.

In the first fight between the pair, in 2014, McGregor fought to a dominant first round win.

McGregor hasn’t fought since January, when he knocked out Donald Cerrone in the first round of their fight.

Poirier appeared back in June, taking a decision win over Dan Hooker.

Following the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov, the UFC lightweight title could also possibly be on the line if the rematch is made.

Another fight between the two would be huge news in the UFC, as both men have had glittering careers.

McGregor’s record sits at 22-4, while Poirier has 26 wins and six losses, as well as one no contest. Stay tuned for more fight news.
