Scoring goals in the Champions League is far from easy.

Domestic football's most prestigious competition can often be a hostile environment for strikers and as such, only true legends of the game are capable of finding the back of the net regularly.

Cristiano Ronaldo (130 goals) and Lionel Messi (117 goals) are the only two players in Champions League history to reach triple figures.

But while the pair's longevity is unrivalled, both failed to hit the ground running in the competition, especially in their first 10 games.

The same cannot be said about Borussia Dortmund's prodigious striker Erling Braut Haaland, who set a new record in that respect on Wednesday evening versus Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The Norwegian is the only player to hit double figures after 10 games in Champions League history, not bad that.

Haaland made his debut in the competition last season, scoring eight goals in Red Bull Salzburg's six group games before completing a move to Dortmund in January ahead of the last-16.

During the German club's tie with Paris Saint-Germain - which they eventually lost on aggregate - the 20-year-old scored two more goals, taking his tally to eight from just 10 matches.

There's a reason why many believe the Leeds-born striker will be a Ballon d'Or winner one day.
