A 5-0 win is bound to instil confidence, regardless of the opponent.
But when that win comes in the Champions League against the current leaders in Germany, it becomes a statement.
Manchester United dispatched RB Leipzig with ease when the two clubs met at Old Trafford on Wednesday, with Marcus Rashford coming off the bench in the second half to score a hat-trick.
“This group is coming together, of course we’ve added a few quality players and the more quality you have and spirit you have, the better chance you have of a performance,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said at full-time, per United’s website.
The key for United is to carry their form from Europe into the Premier League, where they currently sit in 15th place.
Next up is a clash against Arsenal on Sunday in Solskjaer’s 100th game in charge.
The Norwegian coach has attracted many admirers during his reign in charge at the club. There have been sticky moments, but big wins over United’s rivals have shown what Solskjaer can do.
And a clip from Wednesday’s win shows the kind of mentality that Solskjaer is trying to embed in his players.
It shows Scott McTominay, who has been hailed as a future club captain, motivating his teammates after Rashford made it 3-0 in the 78th minute.
“Here we go again! Go again let’s go, come on,” he says, according to the caption.
“We got to be aggressive, 12 minutes left, let’s go!”
Now, you’re bound to get the obvious comments that it’s easy to be a leader when you’re 3-0 up.
But on the other hand, it’s easy to let standards drop in that position, too.
And Man United didn’t let up, scoring two more goals to complete the rout.

Back in June, former United striker Dimitar Berbatov tipped McTominay to captain the club one day.
"With his physique and the way he plays football, he looks like a future captain and leader of Manchester United to me,” the Bulgarian told Betfair.
We really shouldn’t be surprised by such clips as the one against RB Leipzig, though.
The Scotland international is fully aware of the standards Solskjaer and his team set - he’s simply ensuring that are met on the pitch.
“For me, it’s important to keep pushing every day in training,” McTominay said ahead of the Arsenal fixture, per United’s website.
“Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick, the standards they demand from me as an individual and for the group are massive.
“You never have time to take your foot off the gas. The manager is always watching and, if you take your foot off the pedal, you’ll know about it.”
The 23-year-old added: “I feel, in that respect, it’s so important to keep dialled in and keep focused.
“You have to keep really trying to push forwards and create good moments for yourself in your career as, ultimately, that individual work you do will pay off collectively for the team and really push us to win trophies.”
