Remember when Liverpool were dubbed ‘LiVARpool’ last season?Well, that’s not quite the case this campaign.Jurgen Klopp’s side have seen numerous VAR decisions go against them in 2020/21 and that was the case once again against West Ham.With a little more than 10 minutes remaining and the scores level at 1-1, Liverpool thought they had taken a late lead through Diogo Jota.However, VAR ruled out the goal after Sadio Mane was accused of sliding into West Ham goalkeeper Åukasz FabiaÅ„ski before Jota scored.
However, Liverpool just know how to win games and Jota has made a sensational start to his Liverpool career. He wasn't going to allow VAR to ruin the day and he latched on to an incredible through ball by Xherdan Shaqiri to give Liverpool all three points.
It was another unconvincing performance but the Reds won't care too much as they register yet another win.
Just last week, Liverpool conceded a dubious penalty against Sheffield United after VAR adjudged Fabinho to have fouled Oliver McBurnie inside the area.
Then there was all the controversy in the Merseyside Derby as VAR failed to deal with Jordan Pickford’s season-ending tackle on Virgil van Dijk before it ruled Mane’s injury-time winner offside by the smallest of margins.
Last week, Klopp displayed his displeasure at the use of VAR this season.
“No foul,” said the Reds boss of the Sheffield United penalty. “It’s now six games into the season and in three of them we have been on the wrong end of these kind of decisions.
“It’s not that we want to have any advantage, we just don’t want to have any disadvantage. That’s the situation now.
“We did very well at the start of the game, but the penalty we conceded gave Sheffield a proper boost. Until then they couldn’t really get at us, to be honest."
