Derek Chisora described himself as ‘gutted’ after losing to Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday evening but the Brit can be proud of his efforts at Wembley Arena.

Usyk sealed victory on points – the 18th win of his career – to underline his credentials as a heavyweight.

The former unified world cruiserweight champion eventually won 117-112 115-113 115-113 after the bout went the distance.

“I gave a few rounds away but I was pushing the pace,” Chisora, who has now lost 10 of his 42 professional fights, was quoted saying by BBC Sport. “But the judges saw it a different way.

“He did very well. I am gutted.”

Usyk gave himself a “three out of 10” for his performance, which was watched at ringside by unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, and admitted he wasn’t surprised by how difficult the Chisora fight was.

“It is a real test at heavyweight,” the Ukrainian said. “Chisora is a big guy, a hard guy. I was expecting the fight like that and an even tougher fight.”

Asked if his ambition is to still become heavyweight world champion Usyk added: “Absolutely. The undisputed world heavyweight champion. Not just world champion.”

A heartwarming video emerged on social media after the fight showing Chisora handing out burgers to Usyk and his team inside his opponent’s dressing room.

“Five Guys?” Chisora says at the start of the video, to which Usyk responds: “What is it?”

“Five Guys. Burger,” Chisora adds.

“Are these dangerous?” Usyk jokes. “You’re magic!”

Chisora then receives a hug from Usyk and his team following his kind post-fight gesture.

The two boxers then posed for photographs alongside David Haye, Chisora’s manager.

It’s important for sporting stars to set an example by being gracious in both victory and defeat.

And both Usyk and Chisora did just that this weekend.
