Mercedes Benz have secured a record breaking seventh-consecutive Constructors title after a perfect weekend in Italy. The German manufacturers have been simply unstoppable for years now and Sunday's race at the historic Imola further underpinned their dominance. After securing a one-two finish in qualifying the writing was on the wall, with nearest challengers Red Bull needing to outscore Mercedes by 34 points to force the champions elect into a further two-week wait for their coronation. However, Mercedes were in no mood for handing out favours with Lewis Hamilton claiming first place with teammate Valterri Bottas finishing in second. With Max Verstappen and George Russell crashing out late resulting in a safety car, it ruined into a stroll for Mercedes at Imola.Alex Albon's spinning out of contention in the final stages just about summed up Red Bull's afternoon as they failed to register a single point. The title brings Mercedes' tally up to seven in total, well behind Ferrari's massive haul of 16, but they are not the outright record holders for the most titles on the bounce. While there have been a few valiant efforts,  no one has been able to get close to challenging the Mercedes empire of late.

Verstappen has had a few stabs at it over the years but with Hamilton, Bottas, and earlier Nico Rosberg, behind the wheel of an engineering masterpiece, there has never been much doubt for a long time now.

Mercedes dominance has been quite spectacular really, annually blitzing their opponents with consummate ease.

Every year has started with fresh hope of a potential challenger to the monopoly, but each and every time Mercedes have risen to the occasion and proven their formidable credentials.

With Ferrari in alarming decline and McLaren still trying to haul themselves back into contention after a shocking few years, it has been wonderfully plain sailing for Toto Wolff and his team.
