Sheffield Wednesday plan to win promotion form npower League One next season with one of the biggest playing budgets in the division.

Owls chairman Milan Mandaric, who took control of the club last November, has endured a frustrating time so far at Hillsborough, with the man he installed as a replacement for the sacked Alan Irvine, Gary Megson, steering Wednesday to a 15th-placed finish.

But the Owls have already drawn up plans for a concerted promotion push next time round and Mandaric said: "That process gives us much better organisation and a stronger base on which to build and move forward. On the field, as ever, I will give full support to our manager so we can recruit the right players over the summer."

He added: "Gary has given me a list of (six) players he would like to bring to Sheffield Wednesday and (vice-chairman) Paul Aldridge and I will work as hard as we possibly can to make those signings happen.

"Of course, I understand that there is a big appetite among our supporters and from the media for the names of these players, but it would be wrong of me and unfair to start naming names.

"Our supporters will be the first to know about our new signings when we make them and that is the way it should be.

"What I can say for sure right now is that we will have a very competitive budget for next season and if our performances on the pitch reflect that budget, let me say we will be in extremely good shape."
