Tottenham Hotspur could be title contenders this season.

An excellent start to the campaign has seen Spurs win four of their opening seven games in the Premier League - a tally which has put them within two points of first place.

Much of that has been down to the club's summer transfer business.

Daniel Levy funded a big summer for new arrivals with Tottenham welcoming seven first team additions.

They were Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Gareth Bale, Carlos Vinicius and Joe Rodon who arrived from Swansea.

Those deals have undoubtedly improved Jose Mourinho's squad with the Portuguese boss now having an embarrassment of riches at his disposal.

Of course such competition for places is likely to leave certain players questioning their futures.

One of those is Dele Alli.

The midfielder has suffered a real fall from grace after previously being regarded as one of the top young talents in world football.

Alli now struggles for gametime with Tottenham and has also fallen way down the pecking order with the England national team.

According to the Daily Mail, his future in north London is far from certain.

It's claimed that Alli is yet to hear why he's been dropped by Mourinho, as well as failing to hear why he was unable to leave in the summer.

Paris Saint-Germain were linked with a loan move, but that didn't materialise.

However the report now claims that Alli could be allowed to leave the club on loan once the January transfer window opens.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

The situation with Dele Alli is highly unusual.

Valued at £46.8m by Transfermarkt, Alli is capable of being a top level player but he needs to show that he's capable of performing at that level more often.

Of course he needs to be selected for that to happen.

Jose Mourinho is a proven winner who puts winning games over the interest of any player.

It seems that this is where the issue lies.

Whatever the situation regarding Alli it needs to come to a conclusion soon.

Spurs don't want an unhappy player in their squad - after all, it could completely ruin morale in the camp.

Likewise for the midfielder, Alli needs to be playing regular first team football and so maybe a change of scenery will serve him well to get his career back on track.
