Erling Haaland is nothing short of a sensation.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has exploded onto the world scene in recent years and is now perhaps the best young striker in world football.

Still just 20, he has scored eight goals in nine games for the German club thus far this season, including two in two in the Champions League.

Last season, too, was sensational, as he managed to score 44 goals in 40 games for Dortmund and for RB Salzburg; his first three games at Dortmund saw him score seven times.

He is already a Norway international, with seven caps and six goals to his name, and it seems inevitable that he will be on the move again in future.

There is said to be a release clause in his contract – it stands at €75m (£67.5m) and becomes active in 2022 – and one has to believe that every elite European club will be trying to prise him away across the next couple of years.

And it appears that there is one destination in particular that could be attractive.

Sport Witness carries an interview from Sky90 with RB Salzburg sports director Christoph Freund, who is obviously familiar with Haaland, given he used to ply his trade in Austria.

And he and Lothar Matthaus, who were both on the programme, believe he will end up at Liverpool.

Matthaus relayed possible options and mentioned the Reds, which led Freund to reply: “He will land there.”

And he added: “He can play for any club in the world. With his mentality, his will and self-confidence, he will be able to make a mark on European football in the next ten years.”

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Well, well, well.

This would be a real turn-up for the books and would potentially see Liverpool once again boast the very best forward line in world football.

Roberto Firmino has scored just once in 10 games in all competitions and Haaland would be an undoubted improvement.

This season, already, he has two league braces to his name, after all, and he is only likely to keep scoring goals.

If Liverpool can get ahead of the chasing pack, they should do everything in their power to bring Haaland to Anfield.

What a signing it would be.
