West Ham United will be suitably happy with their start to the season.

Last term was a bit of a disappointment with David Moyes' side only avoiding relegation to the Championship in the final week of the season.

The hope was that the club would kick on in the transfer market, and they managed to do that in the final knockings of the window by bringing in Craig Dawson and Said Benrahma.

In terms of league form, West Ham can hardly complain.

Eight points from their opening seven games has pushed the Irons into a mid-table position and sees them five points clear of the drop zone.

While the season is in its early stages I'm sure that Moyes will be happy with this.

A large part of their success this term is down to Declan Rice.

The midfielder was heavily linked with a summer move to Chelsea as Frank Lampard looked to bring the 21-year-old to west London.

But that move didn't materialise meaning that the Hammers were boosted by retaining their star man.

While Rice is likely to stick around this season, former goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that it's only a matter of time before Chelsea get their man.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: “This transfer just keeps rumbling on.

“It was supposed to happen in the summer.

“Frank is obviously a big fan of Declan Rice and he clearly sees him as part of the jigsaw puzzle at Chelsea.

“Unfortunately for smaller clubs, when the likes of Chelsea come with their spending power the transfer does tend to happen.

“Whether that be in January or the summer, I think we will see Declan Rice in a Chelsea shirt before the end of 2021.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Chelsea don't look likely to be deterred in their interest.

Valued at £49.5million by Transfermarkt, Declan Rice is a top level talent and so it's only right that he's attracting interest from a club such as the Blues.

But West Ham will be determined to keep their man.

Assuming that David Moyes keeps them in the Premier League it's highly unlikely that the Irons will need to sell him.

On the contrary, Moyes will be keen to build his team around Rice as he looks to kick on in the future.

It'll be interesting to see which way this goes, but I can't imagine things being decided for a while yet.
