Man United's defending during their 2-1 loss to Istanbul BaÅŸakÅŸehir on Wednesday evening was embarrassing. Their defending for the Turkish side's first goal was breathtakingly bad.For whatever reason, Man United pushed 10 men forward for a corner.Demba Ba was standing all by himself on the halfway line and with no United player anywhere near him.The ball was cleared to him and he ran 60 yards before finding the back of the net.

It really was a horrific goal to concede on United's part.

Nemanja Matic has to take the majority of blame for the goal. He should have been marking Ba but was absolutely nowhere near him.

And Paul Scholes actually spotted Matic not listening to Mike Phelan's instructions on the touchline.

Scholes noticed Phelan shouting at Matic to get back goal side before the ball was even cleared.

"That's completely down to the organisation from a corner. Surely you always have somebody back on the halfway line," Scholes said on BT Sport of the goal, per Manchester Evening News.

"You can see Mike Phelan on the side actually pointing, saying 'Matic, Matic you should be there'. You're always goalside though."

Unfortunately, Matic didn't listen and United were made to pay.

"It's like under-10s football," Scholes continued. "One behind, one in front. You can understand if it's last-minute, maybe, if you're going for a goal, but it's what, 15 minutes?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during Man United vs Istanbul Başakşehir

"It's embarrassing. What the back four are doing, I have no idea. I think United are really struggling with them attacking wise. We spoke about the balance of the team before the game, they've gone with one holding today.

"Possession wise and going forward, I think they have been OK but defensively, again with the second goal, they're absolutely all over the place."

Scholes wasn't the only Man United legend to be raging at the goal. Rio Ferdinand also shared his displeasure on Twitter.

He wrote: "The goals against us....please tell me someone is going nuts in that changing room and people are being made accountable. The shape of the team when we lose the ball for the 1st goal."
