Manchester United had a night to forget on Wednesday night in Turkey.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were looking to make it three wins out of three in their group having already beaten Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig. But Istanbul Basaksehir capitalised on some woeful defending to come away with a 2-1 victory and blow Group H wide open.Demba Ba opened the scoring inside 13 minutes thanks to the worst defending you’ll ever see in the Champions League.United had an attacking corner and left Nemanja Matic back to defend against Ba. But Matic completely lost track of the former Premier League striker and one long way later, Ba was through on Dean Henderson’s goal, finishing cooly.

Before half time, it was 2-0 as Juan Mata lost possession, United’s defence was all over the shop and Edin Visca smashed the ball home to make it 2-0.

Anthony Martial did pull a goal back just minutes later but the Red Devils didn’t do enough to force an equaliser in the second half.

While the defending was awful, so too was some of the passing.

And one player was more guilty than everyone else - Bruno Fernandes.

At the final whistle, a stat emerged that the Portuguese midfielder had given the ball away a quite astonishing 34 times during the 90 minutes. That’s more than once every three minutes! It almost seems impossible.

However, a video has emerged of Fernandes’ performance and you soon realise that it actually happened.

Time and time again, Fernandes had the ball and tried playing balls into Martial and Marcus Rashford.

Yes, he deserves credit for trying to make things happen but his execution was terrible.

Take a look:

After the match, Fernandes admitted that United's confidence has taken a bit of a hit in recent weeks.

"After two defeats it’s hard to think or say something about this," Fernandes told MUTV.

"But we need to look one week ago everyone said we’re going well and doing amazing games, we won against Newcastle, PSG, we beat Leipzig and we drew against Chelsea, but the points we have in the league is not the points we want.

"Today was important to win to be comfortable in the table. But now it’s the same, we need to go for every game to try and win and it will not be different now in the Champions League, we’re in a good position. In the league we're not in a good position, we need to do much better and we need to do something in the next game."
