Tottenham Hotspur are looking like a different animal this season.

Last season was bitterly disappointing for the north London side as the club failed to follow up the relative success of reaching the Champions League final in 2019.

A sixth place finish was salvaged under the leadership of Jose Mourinho, but there's no question that expectations must be higher this time around.

That said, the improvement has been remarkable.

Spurs have picked up 14 points from their opening seven games - a tally which has seen them move up to third place in the table and just two points from the top of the table.

Plenty of credit has to go to the new arrivals who joined over the summer, with the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale already making a big impact on the side.

But you can't overlook the form of some of the existing crop.

Several players underperformed last term, one of whom was Tanguy Ndombele.

The midfielder arrived last summer in a big-money move but failed to hit the ground running in his first season in English football.

However this season has seen a big improvement.

After a slow start it seems that Ndombele is now a first team regular under Jose Mourinho - something that has led to interest from one of Europe's biggest clubs.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barcelona are eyeing a move.

The Catalan giants are in a period of transition and look to be looking at players who could return them to their former glory.

Ndombele is a player who seemingly fits into that category, however according to Romano, a move is unlikely to materialise until next summer.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Tanguy Ndombele is undoubtedly a top talent.

Described by Jose Mourinho as 'phenomenal', there's no doubting the reason why the player is attracting such interest.

Okay, things haven't gone perfectly to plan during his first year at the club, but things are starting to look up now.

It seems like this could be the year that we see Ndombele fulfil his potential.

Spurs fans would love to see it, but they know that Barcelona are sniffing around.

What the future holds for the midfielder remains to be seen, but the main focus for now has to be on getting a consistent tune out of the expensive Frenchman.
