Speaking to the Scotsman, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has drawn a slight comparison between star striker Alfredo Morelos and Liverpool's Mo Salah in the way they are hungry to smash records.

The Colombian recently matched Ally McCoist's record as the Gers' top goalscorer in European competition by scoring his 21st goal and has the chance to break it tonight when they head to Benfica.

Salah, meanwhile, recently drew level with Gerrard as the Reds' top scorer on the continent by bagging his 21st too.

“Records are there to be broken, of course they are,” he said prior to the game in Lisbon tonight.

“I was very proud to see Mo Salah equal my record for Liverpool in Europe, it was only a matter of time. I honestly think he’ll go on and embarrass my record and I hope that he does.

''That kind of thing is always there for strikers. Mo Salah and Alfredo Morelos go about their business always being hungry for goals.''

Obviously, Gerrard isn't going as far to put Morelos on the same level as the Egyptian in terms of talent or achievement but it's certainly interesting to hear how he thinks they have the same hunger.

Given the Rangers manager's storied playing career and the fact perhaps his most famous game saw him drag his teammates up by the scruff of their necks as Liverpool beat AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final, he does seem well-placed to comment.

Aflredo Morelos

Perhaps that speaks to what lies ahead for Morelos.

Having seemingly sorted a lot of his disciplinary issues out given he's not been sent off since March 2019, his ability to score in Europe and his desire to break records praised by a true legend of the game, the sky appears to be the limit.

Whether that comes with Rangers as they attempt to maintain their place at the summit of the Scottish Premiership or elsewhere after what would presumably be a reasonably big money move considering Lille bid £16m during the summer, it's certainly going to be exciting.
