Everton are the team to watch in the Premier League this term.

Four wins from seven games so far as propelled the Toffees into the upper echelons of the table - something that supporters will be delighted with.

However things have recently gone off the boil.

Back-to-back defeats in the league seems to have knocked the confidence of Carlo Ancelotti's side, leaving them with the task of trying to get back to winning ways.

This weekend brings a difficult test for Everton, however, as they take on Manchester United on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side aren't in a good place at the moment - something which could play into the hands of the Toffees.

However you should never underestimate the strength of the Red Devils.

Rio Ferdinand was discussing Everton's season so far and claims that they and Aston Villa may have been brought back down to earth after an unprecedented strong start.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “James is injured for Everton and they go under.

"I think Everton’s squad is lacking a bit of depth. They have quality in their first XI, no doubt.

“But when one or two are going to be out injured in that team then I think it really does affect them. That’s the way the cookie crumbles. But they probably need more bodies of a higher standard as well.

“I think a bit of realism has come into both of them camps in Everton and Aston Villa, which is probably good for them because they will find out a little bit about each other and their players.

“Bringing them back down to earth, but they have had a fantastic run so far. They will be trying to bounce back and that’s the aim.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

I think that Rio Ferdinand's comments are a little bit unfair.

Everton may have lost their last two games but that's far from being a disaster.

The Toffees have been excellent to watch so far this term and it would take a brave man to bet against them pulling off a good result this weekend against Man United.

With the players at their disposal and Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, I'd back Everton to challenge for a top six finish.

Finishing in the top four will be hard given the strength of the so-called 'big guns', but there's no doubt that they are good enough to enjoy a top season.
