Liverpool face a tough Premier League test against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds travel to the Etihad Stadium having not been at their best in recent weeks.

Jurgen Klopp's side sit top of the table having accumulated 16 points from their opening seven games, but even the most die-heard Liverpool fans will admit they haven't quite hit their stride just yet.

Man City aren't exactly impressing, either, but on their day they remain arguably the best team in the world.

So, it's conceivable that Liverpool lose in the Premier League for the second time this season on the weekend.

And, remarkably, even Mark Lawrenson thinks they will emerge with nothing.

Lawrenson has done his predictions for BBC once again this week. For the last four-and-a-half years, he has never predicted Liverpool to lose.

He last predicted Liverpool to lose on 15 May 2016, when they faced West Brom on the last day of the 2015/16 Premier League season.

That was 1,635 days ago and the Reds have played 159 games since then. During that time, Liverpool have tasted defeat 15 times.

But he's predicting that that run comes to an end, with Pep Guardiola's men backed to beat Jurgen Klopp's side 2-0.

"I know I never usually tip Liverpool to lose but I just feel like it is a massive game for both defences and this time it is the Reds who have the uncertainty at the back," he explained.

The year 2020 has just got even madder.

Lawrenson's predictions have become a bit of a meme in recent years and he spoke about the criticism he has faced.

"I only became aware of it a couple of seasons ago when people started giving me a bit of stick about it," Lawro explained.

"Since then, though, Liverpool have been absolutely outstanding and have hardly ever lost a real game either. So how good am I?

"Seriously, though, I don't go through my previous predictions for each team when I look at the fixtures each week.

"I don't pay any attention to the table based on my scores either, but the top teams often stay unbeaten because I don't tip them to lose many games - they don't, so why would I?"

We can't quite believe that the streak is over.
