Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is coming under heavy fire at the moment.

Despite the club's 2020/21 woes being nothing new, it's only in the last few games that the finger of blame has started to move from Ed Woodward and the Glazers to the man in the technical area.

While there can be no denying that Solskjaer hasn't been backed in the transfer market, there has equally been good reason to call his team selections and tactics into question this week.

Solskjaer under fire

Then again, you can only attribute so much blame on Solskjaer for the defeat at Istanbul Başakşehir with the home side's two goals coming from poor defensive errors.

Either way, though, reports are beginning to circle that Solskjaer's job is on the line and that former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has already been contacted about replacing him.

Only time will tell whether that switch transpires, but it leaves United fans pondering whether Solskjaer is the right man to take them forward in the long-term regardless.

Ian Wright: Arteta > Solskjaer

Well, one man who has his doubts is Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who believes another Premier League manager would have been able to elevate the current United side into title challengers.

The man in question? None other than Gunners boss Arteta, which might ring true for a lot of supporters when you consider the Spaniard is fresh from masterminding a win at Old Trafford.

According to the Independent, Wright said on his 'Wrighty’s House' podcast: “Can I just say something, I’m just going to blast it in: If Arteta is managing Man United they are challenging.

“Because, for me now I’ve got to the point where, when you look at the inconsistency of Man United with the components they have, the team that they have, what they should be doing.

"We’re talking about Pogba here, World Cup winner, you’ve got Tuanzebe who can’t even get on the pitch after marking two of arguably two of the most exciting and brilliant players in the world.

“He’s using two holding midfielders when if he’s playing Tuanzebe he doesn’t need that! And you’ve got a manager who, for me, is playing off of vibes, he’s managing off of pure vibes.

"Look at what Arteta has done in his time at Arsenal. We’re seeing coaching change, we’re seeing coaching on the field, we’re seeing impact.

"Look at Elneny, came out of the blue, found him and said ‘He can do this for me, he can do that for me’. He’s making the parts work.

“And looking at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who’s got a Man United team with this Telles – I think Telles looks like someone who could do something – Harry Maguire is starting to get back to what he can do, we know what Harry Maguire can do, with Tuanzebe next to him and Wan-Bissaka, and the goalkeeper is starting to find his form, they should be doing better than that.

“What they did against Arsenal the other day, for me, for Man United, coming off the back of the two results, was embarrassing. Roy Keane was saying the players will get him the sack. It’s not just the players.”

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

I'm halfway there with you, Ian.

I do think that Arteta is a superior manager to Solskjaer and I do think the quality in this United side is woefully underrated, but I still think they're a few signings away from competing for the title.

I'm not sure you could airdrop a single manager in world football into the Old Trafford dugout and expect them to instantly win the Premier League title without signing a single player.

That being said, if you're asking me whether a United side led by Arteta could challenge for the trophy with Upamecano and Sancho in their starting XI, then I'm with you all the way.
