Is the end nigh for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer?

The Norwegian is under huge pressure after Manchester United's 2-1 defeat to İstanbul Başakşehir in the Champions League.

The Red Devils also sit 15th in the Premier League table, having failed to win a league game at Old Trafford this season.

Embarrassing losses to Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal have left Solskjaer in a perilous position ahead of his side's pivotal clash with Everton on Saturday.

A trip to Goodison Park does not bode well for the once baby-faced, but now somewhat dour-faced assassin.

Even if the Toffees have hit a blip following their blistering start to the season, the history books serve as a warning to Solskjaer.

As The Sun point out, the last three United managers before him saw their careers all but ended on Merseyside.

David Moyes, 2014

As part of a Paddy Power stunt, a fan dressed as the Grim Reaper could be seen behind Moyes for his final game as United boss.

On April 20, 2014, the Scotsman's old side, Everton, beat the Red Devils 2-0. Within days, Sir Alex Ferguson's hand-picked successor had been giving his marching orders.

Louis van Gaal, 2016

Next came a proven winner. However, Dutchman Van Gaal could not escape the Merseyside curse, either.

In March of 2016, Liverpool beat United 2-0 in the Europa League. Jurgen Klopp's side outclassed them and it convinced Ed Woodward and the board that a change of manager was needed, even if Van Gaal stumbled on until the end of the season and won the FA Cup.

Jose Mourinho, 2018

"Don't sack Mourinho" rang out around Anfield as Xherdan Shaqiri ripped United to shreds and Liverpool won 3-1. Never a good sign.

It proved to be Mourinho's last game and Solskjaer was appointed as interim manager as soon as the announcement was made.

So is Solskjaer awaiting a similar fate at Goodison Park?

Nobody would be surprised if the 47-year-old was sacked should United lose on Saturday.

And speculation has intensified following the Manchester Evening News' report that the club have already approached Mauricio Pochettino.
