There may generally be more to Roberto Firmino's game than goals but his statistics from this evening's 1-1 draw at Manchester City certainly don't make for pleasant viewing. While the Brazilian has previously been noted for his ability to drop deep and bring the likes of Sadio Mane and Mo Salah into the game, the form of Diogo Jota since his summer arrival from Wolves led to suggestions the 29-year-old should be dropped. So far this season, Firmino has only scored once in the Premier League and, while he has recorded a further two assists, cannot match the likes of Salah, Mane and Jota in front of goal at the moment. During the draw at the Etihad, the former Hoffenheim man did little to convince. Squawka tweeted his performance in numbers and his inability to impact proceedings in the final third was exposed. Indeed, he failed to produce a shot on target for the fifth time in the league alone this season and it was also the fourth occasion during this campaign he didn't create a single chance for his teammates. Even more alarmingly, this is the third time in 2020/21 that he's failed to manage either a shot on target or fashion a chance in the same game.
Looking at WhoScored, his average of 1.1 key pass per game in the league is the third-lowest in his recorded career, which further indicates how far he is from the level he's shown before.
Given all he's done for Liverpool since joining in 2015, it'd be unwise to write Roberto Firmino off but it's fair to say this season really isn't going to plan.
