While it's been a difficult season for West Brom since their return to the Premier League, Semi Ajayi's performance against Tottenham Hotspur was celebrated by sections of support on social media.

A regular this season in his maiden campaign at this level, he looked assured against Spurs despite Harry Kane's late winner and The Athletic have provided some further insight into his standing at the Hawthorns.

According to their piece about the player, Ajayi is well-liked at the club's training ground and has been noted for his willingness to learn.

The Nigerian international has returned to the top the hard way after impressing with Rotherham prior to his move to the Midlands following a spell with Cardiff City for the former Arsenal youngster.

During his time in North London, legendary manager Arsene Wenger is thought to have wanted to promote him to first-team training, such is his natural ability.

Still, things obviously didn't work out to that level for him but, at 27, looks to be finding his feet amongst the elite.

In fact, of all players to have played every game for the Baggies this season, he boasts the highest average of defensive duels won per 90 (0.94) and no one in their squad to have made over four league appearances have made as many as his 10.07 ball recoveries over the same period.

With that in mind, he's certainly looking like a positive amid what is an otherwise difficult campaign.
