p1emou04stj1i4rj13co3s52ac20.jpg

The Premier League now takes a two-week break as another round of international fixtures are played.

It’s been a thrilling start to the 2019-20 campaign so far, with plenty of surprises over the first couple of months.

Leicester City currently lead the way at the top of the table, closely followed by Tottenham, Liverpool and Southampton.

Manchester City and Manchester United both sit in mid-table following disappointing starts to the season, while strugglers West Brom, Burnley and Sheffield United are still looking for their first victory.

BBC Sport asked fans to vote for the Premier League players they believe have performed best so far this season, and there are some very interesting results. Let’s take a look…

Top 10 goalkeepers

10. Vicente Guaita | Crystal Palace (6.02)

9. Karl Darlow | Newcastle (6.36)

8. Rui Patricio | Wolves (6.42)

p1emor48c13h11ghs1gm7k3dci6b.jpg

1. Edouard Mendy | Chelsea (7.25)

Edouard Mendy, signed by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to provide competition for the unconvincing Kepa Arrizabalaga, has made a big impact during his brief time at Stamford Bridge.

The Senegal international kept clean sheets in his first three Premier League appearances (against Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Burnley) and also impressed in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Sheffield United.

Everton’s Jordan Pickford received the lowest rating of any Premier League goalkeeper (4.6), while Manchester United star David de Gea’s rating was 4.78.

p1emordrhl13n91h462kh1brb1duoh.jpg

2. Kyle Walker-Peters | Southampton (7.04)

1. Christian Fuchs | Leicester (7.33)

What? No place for either of Liverpool’s world-class full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold or Andrew Robertson?

Both defenders saw their average ratings plummet following *that* shocking 7-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

p1emorfaj4qlp17j410pk5p3f22j.jpg

Leicester City duo Christian Fuchs and Timothy Castagne have both impressed fans, while Tariq Lamptey has been a bright spark for 16th-placed Brighton.

9. Angelo Ogbonna | West Ham (6.5)

p1emornje81vqbhogal1mfo1p5bn.jpg

1. Jannik Vestergaard | Southampton (7.34)

Jannik Vestergaard leads the way for the centre-backs category following Southampton’s impressive start to the season.

Leicester’s Wesley Fofana, meanwhile, looks a proper talent.

At the opposite end of the scale, Manchester United captain Harry Maguire received one of the lowest average ratings (4.15) of any Premier League centre-back.

p1emorsauv1d02u81et91sjk1342p.jpg

Only Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen (4.03) and Fulham’s Michael Hector (4.11) were rated lower than the England international.

Top 10 defensive/central midfielders

10. James McCarthy | Crystal Palace (6.32)

9. Jordan Henderson | Liverpool (6.34)

8. John McGinn | Aston Villa (6.44)

7. Mateusz Klich | Leeds (6.6)

2. Stuart Armstrong | Southampton (7.19)

1. James Ward-Prowse | Southampton (7.24)

p1emorum8s18rvcvk1ggc51nf2v.jpg

Look away now, Paul Pogba.

The Manchester United midfielder might be the Premier League’s most expensive footballer but no player has received a lower average rating (a dismal 3.64) from fans so far this season.

p1emorssl91qj11s1si7215bj15h6r.jpg

James Ward-Prowse has been superb in recent weeks, scoring three goals and providing one assist, so it’s no surprise to see his rating so high - especially after scoring two free-kicks in one match against Aston Villa.

Ward-Prowse is joined in the top three by teammates Stuart Armstrong and Oriol Romeu.

Top 10 attacking midfielders/wingers

10. Hakim Ziyech | Chelsea (6.75)

p1emorv7l719qt175v1a0bk7g153o11.jpg

9. Harvey Barnes | Leicester (6.78)

8. Jarrod Bowen | West Ham (6.78)

7. Nathan Redmond | Southampton (6.86)

6. Marc Albrighton | Leicester (6.88)

5. Mahmoud Trezeguet | Aston Villa (6.89)

4. James Maddison | Leicester (6.93)

3. James Rodriguez | Everton (6.95)

p1emos04liaq81del17kn10p61ju314.jpg

2. Son Heung-min | Tottenham (7.04)

1. Jack Grealish | Aston Villa (7.25)

With four goals and six assists to his name already this season, Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has impressed Premier League fans more than any other attacking midfielder.

Tottenham’s Son Heung-min is a little unfortunate to miss out on top spot considering he scored eight goals and registered two assists.

p1emos6q3q11g51r53pruqiup51o.jpg

It’s also a little surprising that Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes missed out. In seven appearances so far this season, the Portugal international has scored five goals and set up three more for his teammates.

Top 10 forwards

10. Dominic Calvert-Lewin | Everton (6.76)

p1emos1i70tpd1k6rg7nbfo1ro18.jpg

9. Rodrigo | Leeds (6.8)

8. Patrick Bamford | Leeds (6.82)

7. Richarlison | Everton (6.85)

6. Ollie Watkins | Aston Villa (6.86)

5. Che Adams | Southampton (7.16)

4. Sadio Mane | Liverpool (7.19)

3. Michail Antonio | West Ham (7.42)

p1emos439fh7v1971vd580n1crn1e.jpg

2. Jamie Vardy | Leicester (7.45)

1. Danny Ings | Southampton (7.75)

Okay, so there are two very notable omissions here.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah came 11th (6.75) despite scoring eight goals, while Harry Kane is currently 12th (6.73) which is bizarre considering he’s scored seven goals and provided eight assists already this season.

p1emos4qm62521s9d1noi1irmneh1g.jpg

Danny Ings and Jamie Vardy lead the way, while Ollie Watkins registered the single highest rating of any player this season (9.3) after scoring a hat-trick in Aston Villa’s 7-2 victory over Liverpool.

Top 10 players overall

10. Stuart Armstrong | Southampton (7.19)

9. Wesley Fofana | Leicester (7.21)

8. James Ward-Prowse | Southampton (7.24)

7. Jack Grealish | Aston Villa (7.25)

p1emos5vspbied7pjus11qlekk1m.jpg

6. Edouard Mendy | Chelsea (7.25)

5. Christian Fuchs | Leicester (7.33)

4. Jannik Vestergaard | Southampton (7.34)

3. Michail Antonio | West Ham (7.42)

2. Jamie Vardy | Leicester (7.45)

1. Danny Ings | Southampton (7.76)

So, Ings (five goals, two assists) is the best-performing player in the Premier League so far this season in the eyes of the fans.

p1emos2h5m5i91pfo16he1lq317051a.jpg

For our money, though, Kane should certainly be inside the top 10 - and possibly even sat in top spot ahead of Ings.
