An international break rarely throws out too many headlines of note.Predominantly, it's a two-week period full of supporters moaning that club football has disappeared for a fortnight. However, on the odd occasion, it gives us a moment to talk about.Last month, it was the nonsensical nature of sending players around the world during the middle of a global pandemic. However, this time around the news is far more lighthearted and exciting. That's because, for the very first time, 17-year-old Jude Bellingham has been called into the England squad.Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Ward-Prowse have both had to withdraw from the squad and as a result, Bellingham has been drafted in as injury cover. Jude BellinghamThe announcement, which was first revealed on Twitter, came out of nowhere. It sparked bewilderment and a sense of anticipation in equal measure. But what do we know about the talented teenager? We've put together a list of 12 things about Bellingham that you may not be aware of.

Birmingham's youngest ever player

Bellingham joined Birmingham when he was just eight years old and rose through the ranks before earning his first-team debut aged just 16 years and 38 days. It was a record that had been broken for the first time since Trevor Francis 49 years previously.

Playing U23 football at 15

The teenager is no ordinary talent and at the age of 15, he was already playing in Birmingham's top-youth squad. Funnily enough, he scored on his debut for the U23s and by March 2019, he had netted three goals in ten development squad appearances.

Youth level captain

Bellingham isn't just classy with the ball at his feet, he's also a natural-born leader. The talented teenager has captained England's U15 squad and was also the U17s skipper during the Syrenka Cup in the 2019 competition. He scored two goals in three matches for them.

His shirt number was retired

This was a baffling decision from Birmingham but it was all in good flavour. After Bellingham left the Championship side behind for Borussia Dortmund, the Blues took the choice of retiring his number 22 shirt in a bid "to remember one of our own and to inspire others." Interesting to say the least.

Man United nearly paid £20m for him

The midfielder was sought-after by Manchester United at the beginning of the year and the Red Devils even drafted in Eric Cantona and Sir Alex Ferguson in a bid to prise him away from Birmingham. They wanted to pay £20m for his services but just months later, he was heading to Germany.

Most expensive 17-year-old in history

Lo and behold, United missed out as Dortmund paid an initial £25m for his services earlier this year. It's a transfer that could be worth an eventual £30m based on additional clauses. That means his overall value is close to that of Wayne Rooney's at a similar age. Based on that, Bellingham could well be set for greatness.

Dortmund's youngest ever scorer

The wonderkid who just keeps making history. When Bellingham scored for Dortmund against MSV Duisburg in the DFB-Pokal at the age of 17 years and 77 days, he became the youngest individual to find the net in a competitive match for the German side. Bellingham topped Nuri Sahin and Gio Reyna in the process.

Bundesliga Rookie of the Month

The teenager has already been making waves in Germany and was named the Rookie of the Month for September in the Bundesliga. The central midfielder has started six times in all competitions this term, making four appearances from the bench. Bellingham has also found the net on one occasion.

He plays like Gerrard

It might be a step too far to say that Bellingham could replicate Steven Gerrard's England heights but the teen has already been compared to the Liverpool hero. That's according to Jermaine Pennant who said: "He reminds me of a young Steven Gerrard. He throws himself about, he can get up and down the pitch, he can score goals and assist goals, he's got trickery. He's a fantastic young player."

Youngest Englishman to play in the Champions League

This is one of the best facts yet. In playing against Lazio in October at the age of 17 years and 113 days, he broke Phil Foden's record to become the youngest Englishman to appear in Europe's premier competition. Impressive work.

His dad is a non-league sensation

It turns out that Bellingham's father isn't a bad footballer either. His dad, Mark Bellingham, is one of the finest goalscorers in non-league history, bagging over 700 career goals. His first came in 1994 before he reached that wonderful milestone in 2016.

Could become third-youngest England player

If Bellingham gets the chance to play for England during the current international break, then he will become one of the youngest Three Lions players ever. The only players ahead of him on that illustrious list are Theo Walcott and Wayne Rooney.

One has to wonder which player he'll end up turning out like more?
