Injuries have been far from kind to Premier League champions Liverpool this season and the sight of Trent Alexander-Arnold going off against Manchester City would have been a worrying one.

Considering the ailments to both Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho this season, losing another key player for any length of time is unwelcome as Jurgen Klopp fumes about the lack of protection given to top footballers.

According to The Athletic however, there could be some better news on the horizon.

Within their update on Alexander-Arnold, they offer some insight into the situation of Thiago.

The summer signing has not played since picking up an injury during October’s controversial Merseyside derby draw after picking up a knock to his knee, missing the last seven games in all competitions. As per Transfermarkt, that equates to 33 days.

However, there is reportedly hope that the Spanish international will be back in contention after this month's international break. Indeed, with big games coming up against the likes of league leaders Leicester City and a return to the Champions League, having a player of such quality available will be a boost.

No one in the Reds' side has played more forward, final-third or long passes than he has per 90 minutes of action this season, so he certainly can provide an added layer of guile to their ranks when available.

Liverpool seem to be recovering from their early-season blip fairly well but somewhat ceded control to Manchester City in the game-week just gone, so being able to call on such a proven ball-player can help them in the build-up to the busy festive schedule.
