Paul Pogba: Manchester United urged to sell French midfielder by Jamie Carragher

Paul Pogba is a man that divides opinion.

The Frenchman has been very hit-and-miss since joining Manchester United in 2016.

Although he is capable of brilliance, he seems to be out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the moment.

Pogba has featured in United's last seven games but only two of those have come from the start.

His struggles have led to many in the footballing world debating whether he should be shown the exit door at Old Trafford.

And now Jamie Carragher has shared his opinion on the inconsistent midfielder.

The Liverpool legend, speaking on talkSPORT, said that he doesn't think Pogba is a great player and that United should be looking to move him on.

“He’s possibly never done well in any position or tactical set up that different managers have had,” Carragher said of the 27-year-old.

“Would I pick him in the Manchester United team? No, I wouldn’t. He’s a huge name, he’s come for a huge transfer fee, but I don’t think he’s a great player.

“People say he’s won the World Cup and I get that. But when he came in I thought he might have the impact like Lampard at Chelsea, Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – those players drove their team to titles, European Cups.

“When you’re that man who’s seen as the one to take United to the next level, which people might say it’s too much pressure to put on one man, but that’s what we were told was coming.

“It just hasn’t happened for him at Manchester United. For me, I’d be looking to move him on.

“I do not believe Pogba and Fernandes can play in the same team so you have to play Fernandes and he has played really well since he joined.

“I would be looking to take money for Pogba.”

I'm a believer in Pogba. I think he has the traits needed to be one of the best midfielders in the world.

But he's never really got it going at United, for whatever reason.

Solskjaer has given Pogba chance after chance at the club but he's never been able to produce his best form.

At 27 years old, he still hasn't hit his prime and still has a lot of value. According to Transfermarkt, he is worth £72m.

Despite his undeniable talent, if United receive a bid of that figure in the near future, they should be taking it.

United have a wealth of options at centre midfield so Pogba could be deemed expendable.

They can then invest that money into other areas of the squad which need strengthening.

If he does leave, though, I wouldn't be surprised if he tore it up at his new club
