Arsenal are struggling to score goals.

Mikel Arteta’s men only have nine goals to their name this season, a figure that falls some way short of the current top four.

Leaders Leicester City, by comparison, have 18 goals to their name, as do third-placed Liverpool; second-placed Tottenham Hotspur have 19. Southampton, in fourth, have scored 16.

The only clubs with a lower number of goals scored are Wolves, an outlier in ninth, Fulham, West Bromwich Albion, Burnley, and Sheffield United, who are all in the bottom four.

At the weekend, the Gunners drew a blank, losing 3-0 to Aston Villa. Their two league games prior to that saw them score just once, against Manchester United.

One has to wonder what Mesut Ozil is thinking, with the playmaker exiled and unable to play any role in the 2020/21 season after he was not registered in either the Premier League squad or the Europa League squad.

And it has led the Gunners to consider signing one of the most talented playmakers in Europe.

Sport Witness carries a report from Gazzette dello Sport, claiming that there is interest in signing Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Salzburg.

The 20-year-old has a release clause of €25m (£22.3m) in his contract, and it seems Arteta’s side have a genuine interest in signing the youngster.

The report states that Arsenal have opened talks with his agent over a possible deal, but there is rival interest from Italy; both AC Milan and Napoli are also said to be interested.

And it is little surprise, as Szoboszlai has scored five goals and registered nine assists already this season, including a strike against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group stages.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Szobolszai is a wonderfully versatile talent.

He can play in attacking midfield, on the left flank or in central midfield and this is a player who has that eye for a killer pass unmatched in the division he is currently playing in.

Last season, he scored 12 times and registered 18 assists in all competitions and this is just the type of player Arsenal should be targeting.

They have a chronic lack of creativity in the team at present and introducing a wonderkid with genuinely prodigious talents would go a long way to solving the current problem.

For the sake of their European hopes, this is a deal they should look to do.
