Arsenal have long been touted with a move for Dominik Szoboszlai and a recent report suggests that the club remain in contact with the precocious RB Salzburg star.

Szoboszlai's name has cropped up as a potential target for the Gunners on a number of occasions this year and, given his relatively modest €25m (£22.2m) release clause, it's no surprise that those rumours are refusing to go away.

Indeed, according to a report published in Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday (via Sport Witness), Arsenal are one of the interested parties monitoring Szoboszlai's situation.

The report claims that AC Milan are still thinking about an approach but the Gunners are still in contention as well, with the 20-year-old's agent continuing to maintain contact with the club.

In a season when Mesut Ozil's fall from grace was confirmed through his omission from Arsenal's Premier League and Europa League squads, it is no surprise that the club are looking at players with the potential to fill his creative void.

The slightly gangly, 6ft 1in assist machine ticks a lot of boxes.

Like Ozil, Szoboszlai is left-footed and possesses an eagle-eyed ability to slice the opposition apart with incisive through balls.

The 10-cap Hungary international has already showcased his creative spark for RB Salzburg in the Champions League this season, completing an average of 3 key passes per game from the left side of midfield.

In the Austrian top flight, meanwhile, he has already racked up six assists from just six starts, forming a lethal understanding with Patson Daka, who he has combined to goal scoring effect with ten times in 67 appearances.

There is plenty to like about the latest prodigious talent to emerge from a Red Bull-branded outfit and Wolfgang Gasparik, who researches Austrian football for Football Manager has identified his dribbling ability, strength from set-pieces and composure in possession of the ball has some of his defining qualities, per 101GreatGoals.

“A very explosive, strong playmaker who is preferred on the left side. Technically brilliant, very clever and a good overview for his teammates. Very calm when he has the ball and opens up spaces for the team through his powerful acceleration.

“Always dangerous in 1 vs 1 situations, as he is also good at power dribbling on the side line. In any case, his standard situations are undisputed. With his precise crosses at corner kicks, he repeatedly introduces dangerous situations that often lead to goals.”

Perhaps he will not be a completely like-for-like replacement for Ozil, but his profile is befitting of the type of elusive, creative technician Arsenal are missing from their squad right now.

Szoboszlai is untested in Europe's elite leagues, but the manner in which Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and others have made the transition suggests Arsenal's decision makers have little to worry about.

At just £22.2m, Edu and Raul Sanllehi could secure a cunning piece of business by bringing Szoboszlai to the club.
