Lionel Messi has come in for criticism at Barcelona this season.

It seems as though the microscope has been placed over the serial Ballon d'Or winner more than ever after his declaration that he wanted to leave Camp Nou over the summer.

Naturally, as we all know, Messi reversed a decision that looked almost certain to take him to Manchester City and what could prove to be his final season at Barca is being studied intensely.

2020/21 criticism for Messi

Such is the partisan nature of the Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate, in particular, it seems as though social media is only ever a few hours away from catching wind of each and every statistic.

So, despite Messi having dropped some superb performances this season, the fact it took him until the 5-2 win over Real Betis to score his first goal from open play sparked no shortage of jokes.

It goes to show that football is an incredibly fast-moving and brutal business, although, that being said, Messi is probably due his share of penalty jibes after all the 'Penaldo' memes.

Celebrating Messi's brilliance

Nevertheless, don't let the deceiving data take away from what could either be a fitting swansong for Messi in Catalonia or the beginning of falling in love with his boyhood club again.

But either way, even if you want to be pessimistic and decree that father time is finally catching up on Messi, let's, therefore, take this season to just bask in the brilliance of one of the sport's greatest.

In fact, I'm so keen for that to be the case that I couldn't help directing you to one of the best ways to celebrate everything that Messi has done for the beautiful game over his illustrious career.

Those with brilliant memories might recall YouTuber 'NugoBasilaiaa' going viral for a video titled: '10 impossible things that only Lionel Messi is capable of doing - he is superhuman' in 2017.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Whether it's the magnificence of his record against Real and Premier League clubs or the joy of his penchant for solo goals, there can be no denying that Messi specializes in the impossible.

Besides, I'll be upfront with you: I think Messi is the greatest footballer of all time and regardless of whether age is catching up with him or not, he's achieved too much in the game for that to change.

But - shock horror - I also happen to be a massive fan of Ronaldo and as much as I love the friendly banter of the debate, time is fast running out for us to enjoy the two superstars playing the sport we all love.

It sounds pessimistic, it sounds downbeat, I know, but it's never been more important for us to really cherish both players whenever they take to our screens.

After all, what's even more impossible than the Messi feats included in the video is the fact there have been two once-in-a-lifetime players in the same lifetime.
