Messi, Kane, Zlatan: Which player has the most Man of the Match awards so far this season?

As club football temporarily pauses for a couple of weeks to make way for a batch of international fixtures, we’re taking a closer look at which players have performed best during the opening weeks of the 2020-21 campaign.

According to WhoScored.com’s data, Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe currently leads the way in terms of average rating (8.79).

The French forward sits just above Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (8.65), Tottenham’s Harry Kane (8.39), AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (8.30) and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish (8.18).

But which players have picked up the most Man of the Match awards so far this term?

It’s still early days in the season, of course, but the following 15 players have already managed to produce a series of Man of the Match performances.

Among the players who narrowly miss out on the top 15 (all with two MOTM awards each) including Barcelona’s Ansu Fati, Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy, Everton’s James Rodriguez, and the aforementioned Grealish.

15. Florian Thauvin | Marseille
MOTM awards this season: 3 (Average rating: 7.34)

Florian Thauvin has been Marseille’s star of the show in recent weeks, registering five assists while also chipping in with three goals.
