Chris Kirkland has told GIVEMESPORT that Alisson and Ederson are both way ahead of David de Gea as the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

The former Liverpool and Wigan Athletic goalkeeper believes that the Reds and Manchester City stoppers are unquestionably the best in the division at this point.

Both Brazilian stoppers have been in excellent form for their clubs in recent seasons, with the City man winning the Golden Glove last season, keeping 16 clean sheets across the season.

In 2018/19, Alisson won it, keeping 21 clean sheets, with Ederson in second, keeping 20.

De Gea did win the award in 17/18 with 18 – Ederson was second with 16, while Alisson was playing for Roma – but since then the Spaniard has fallen off since.

In 18/19, he kept seven clean sheets, while he kept 13 in 19/20. This season, thus far, De Gea has pitched one shutout; as has Alisson, Ederson has two to his name.

And Kirkland is in no doubt that the two Brazilians are head and shoulders above the Spaniard, because they have a quiet efficiency about the way they operate.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Listen, I’d be saying it about Alisson, even if I wasn't a Liverpool fan, you know, I respect keepers a lot and I know how hard that position is. Ederson's been brilliant for Manchester City.

“I like the keepers that go about their business quietly and I don't like the ones that shout and bellow on the park and you look at them two, they very rarely do it. They go about the business but they've got massive presence and that's that says it all because normally people with the big presence are the shouters and the bellowers and people recognise you, you know that they’re there but with them two, you know they are in goal.

“You don't even have to look because they’ve just got this presence in the field and about them. So yeah, then I mean, Brazil, number one and two, you know, for the next 10-15 years, probably so I mean what a position Brazil are in there. One gets injured, the other one comes in but them two are way ahead for me.”

United, this season, are currently 14th in the table, two points behind 10th-placed City and seven behind third-placed Liverpool.

With the unpredictability of the season, though, it is fair to say that anything could happen, and the form of every side’s goalkeeper will be central to where they eventually finish come May.
