Golf fans at Augusta and across the world will have one eye on the sky this week as heavy rain is forecast and has already cost us a few hours of play on day one.

Play has already been suspended due to a storm passing over Georgia, but officials are hopeful to resume play later today to continue round one.

If the forecast is accurate, there is a big threat for one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

The question fans will be asking is: what will happen if the rain and thunder interrupts play?

Well, here is what we have found out, as per The Sun.

As play has already been suspended, officials are looking to continue before the end of the day, with play currently expected to get underway at 15:30 GMT.

Currently, there has been between one & two hours delay so far, with play looking to restart as soon as possible once the storm has stopped.

It is already a change for the tournament, taking place in November (usually in April), with reduced daylight for play.

Augusta officials will look to make up any time needed on the second day, before round two commences.

The tournament looks to be completed on schedule, but officials have said that if more time is needed, then the tournament may finish a day or two later than expected.

Good news for golf fans watching is that the Masters tournament will be completed, whenever it may be.

Wet weather has played a part before, back in 2003, with the opening day abandoned. Round one began on the Friday, and the adjustments were made so the tournament could finish on schedule.

Fans may also remember that just last year the final round was brought forward, due to a forecast of storms in the late afternoon.
