Cristiano Ronaldo has hit the headlines this week for reasons you wouldn't expect.

It's the international break, so, naturally, Ronaldo is out there setting records and making history wherever he goes and this week has been no different with Portugal facing Andorra.

With all due respect to the Andorrans, they're far from one of the strongest forces in the European game and Ronaldo notched his 102nd international goal during a 7-0 thrashing in Lisbon.

Ronaldo linked to Juventus exit

However, despite Ronaldo closing in on the record for most international goals in history, it has actually been unexpected transfer rumours that have been following his every step this week.

There have been a few errand reports and rumours over the last 12 months that the Ronaldo-Juventus project hasn't quite been as bountiful has many had hoped for.

As a result, depending on what you believe, Juventus appear to be floating the idea of taking the weight off their wage bill by potentially allowing Ronaldo to leave next summer.

Potential Man Utd reunion

Sport reported earlier in the week that the Old Lady want to relieve themselves of the player's touted £540,000-a-week wages amidst the financial stresses of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Then, in turn, came the whisperings that Manchester United could make a move for their former player, completing what would surely be the most lucrative reunion in footballing history.

However, as many United fans will know, this is something which has been touted many times over the last 10 years and Paris Saint-Germain are also believed to be interested in Ronaldo's signature.

PSG and Man Utd interested

But perhaps, I dare say, it is time for United supporters to get a little bit excited because, according to Sport Witness, a report in Portuguese publication Record has now given a tantalising update.

They ran a Ronaldo story on their front page with the headline: ‘Sharks circle CR7’, which led into claims that Juve are happy for him to leave if they don't win the 2020/21 Champions League title.

PSG and United are namedropped as the two clubs who would be interested in taking advantage of the Italian champions giving their bank account a spring clean.

'Formal offer' from Man Utd

In the case of PSG, they would be willing to swap Neymar for Ronaldo, but that would be problematic seeing as the Brazilian superstar actually boasts the higher wages of the two.

As for United, however, Record writes that the Red Devils have already made a 'formal offer’ via Jorge Mendes and that Ronaldo, despite being focused on Juve for now, is analysing the deal.

Sport Witness do apply the caveat that Record isn't masquerading the information as exclusive, though they were the first publication to report Ronaldo's Real Madrid exit, so their intel is well worth monitoring.

Besides, the louder and louder the whispers of a Ronaldo-United reunion become in the footballing world, the more you'd be forgiven for believing that it could genuinely transpire.

Stranger things have happened in the beautiful game, there's no denying it and the prospect of seeing Ronaldo tearing up the Premier League one more time would be truly special.
