Much has been made about Liverpool’s frontline this season following the arrival of Diogo Jota.

The £45m signing has adapted to life at Anfield like a duck to water in stark contrast to some of the struggles Roberto Firmino has endured this season, giving Jurgen Klopp a welcome selection headache.

One of the deadliest attacks in Europe is now supplemented by a rising star in Jota, along with the likes of Curtis Jones, though former Anfield stopper Chris Kirkland has given his damning verdict on another of the supporting cast.

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, the 39-year-old believes Shaqiri has little chance of ever improving his standing at Anfield.

When asked about whether or not the Swiss international could push for a regular starting berth, Kirkland was emphatic in his response.

'Is he ever going to get a starting position Liverpool? I'd say no, no, definitely not''.

'I think there's too much quality there.

'Listen, he's a top player, don't get me wrong. I think he went first spell early part of last season where he was one of the first on the team.

'You know, he scored goals, he came on, he made an impact, but he's not going to be a star for Liverpool.'

Xherdan Shaqiri latest transfer news

Interestingly enough, it was Shaqiri who seemingly decided to stay at Anfield despite his inability to truly thrust himself upon first-team proceedings.

Quoted by Goal last month, the former Stoke winger revealed he 'decided' to stay on Merseyside months after Liverpool turned down approaches from AS Roma in January of this year.

Afforded only by 51 minutes of Premier League action so far, the 28-year-old faces a difficult challenge to mount a genuine claim for a starting berth, so Kirkland's prediction that he won't be a star makes sense.
