First-team coach Mick Wadsworth believes signing Nolberto Solano will benefit Hartlepool both on and off the pitch.

The 36-year-old former Peru international has made the surprise switch to Victoria Park after turning down the offer of a new deal at Hull.

"I worked with Nolberto at Newcastle and he is a great, great player," said Wadsworth. "He is as good a technical player as I have coached, and his experience will help the younger boys in the squad no end."

Wadsworth added: "He has lots to offer Hartlepool. He is a really good professional and will help develop the younger players on and off the pitch.

"(Hull manager) Nigel Pearson signed him for Leicester and took him to Hull with him and offered him the chance to stay there for next season, so that's testimony to his ability and application.

"He is still good enough to still be playing Championship football."
