Arsenal target United midfielder

Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has been offered a new deal by the Premier League champions in the wake of interest from Arsenal, reports The Express.

The England midfielder has been injury stricken since his move from Bayern Munich in 2007, and despite a brief appearance this season, has failed to recover sufficiently to make a significant contribution to United' title jaunt.

And despite United reportedly offering the 30-year-old a new deal, Arsenal are interested in the central midfielder, who would be available on a free transfer.

A succession of knee injuries have restricted Hargreaves' activity since he arrived at Old Trafford, and reports all season have linked the Canadian born player with a move away from United.

Without him, United have secured their 19th league title after Saturday's draw with Blackburn Rovers.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in the midfielder, but huge question marks still surround his fitness after a shoulder injury ended his season prematurely in March.

Arsene Wenger is craving some experience in his youthful squad, and with Hargreaves available on a free, Arsenal may be willing to take a punt in the United reject.
