Bristol City have been given the go-ahead to allow Sainsbury's to build a new superstore at Ashton Gate.

The Secretary of State will not interfere in Bristol City Council's move to give planning permission to the popular supermarket chain.

The decision is another step towards a £92 million stadium at Ashton Vale.

Guy Price, who begins the role of Robins chief executive on June 1, was pleased to hear the news.

"It's good to hear that, for the third time, the Secretary of State has decided there is no need for him to call a Bristol City Council stadium planning decision in for him to determine centrally," he told the club's official website.

"He will only have made this decision on the grounds that it is right for Bristol to make this decision himself, and that he doesn't need to get involved."
