Wesley Sneijder wants to join Manchester United, according to Dutch journalist Marcel van deer Kraan.

The Inter Milan midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford since last summer, and now with Paul Scholes having retired, United could be open to a move.

And Van der Kraan says Sneijder wants a move to United.

"We know that Wesley is really keen to move to Manchester, I think it is United most of all," Van der Kraan told talkSPORT.

"He knows that Scholes is retiring and that is the job for him, the role is made for him at Old Trafford."

The news will come as a boost to United, as they search for a replacement for Scholes.

Sneijder was influential in Holland's passage to the World Cup final last summer, and Inter Milan's Champions League victory last year.

United are also interested in Luka Modric to help fill the role of Scholes, and Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to have to chose between the duo this summer.
