David Silva was at his brilliant best for Spain this weekend, with the diminutive winger setting up two goals in the 4-0 victory over USA in Massachusetts.

James Milner and Joe Hart were both part of England's side that drew 2-2 with Switzerland at Wembley in a Euro 2012 qualifier, although it wasn't the greatest day for Fabio Capello's men after a lacklustre performance.

“We are more than capable of beating anybody on our day so we have got to learn from our mistakes," said Milner post-match.

Shay Given enjoyed a much more successful day at the office, helping the Republic of Ireland to a crucial 2-0 win away at Macedonia. It leaves Giovanni Trapattoni's side well placed to qualify for next summer's European Championships.

Roque Santa Cruz played for Paraguay in their 2-0 victory over Bolivia, whilst Nigel de Jong was part of the Dutch side which held Brazil to a 0-0 draw in Rio de Janiro.

Finally, it was a game of mixed emotions for Pablo Zabaleta after he captained Argentina against Nigeria last week. However, the nation's poor form continued as Nigeria ran out 4-1 winners on Wednesday night. A Sunday defeat to Poland has since followed.
