Southampton travelled to Manchester United on Tuesday evening hoping to put in a good performance. But their hopes of coming away from Old Trafford with points took a massive hit as they were shown a red card almost immediately after kick-off.With Southampton having somewhat of an injury crisis, Ralph Hassenhuttl gave Alex Jankewitz his first start for the club. But the 19-year-old endured a nightmare evening as he was shown a red card just 79 seconds into his full Premier League debut.Jankewitz produced an awful challenge on Scott McTominay and was almost immediately given his marching orders by Mike Dean.

Ouch. That is a naughty one.

Just look at the damage that Jankewitz's challenge left on McTominay's leg...

Scott McTominay's leg after awful challenge in Man United vs Southampton

McTominay is very, very lucky to walk away from that without suffering a serious injury.

United would go on to make their numerical advantage count.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka netted after 18 minutes to give United the lead.

Marcus Rashford, Jan Bednarek (OG) and Edinson Cavani then all scored to make it 4-0 to United going into half-time.

And Southampton would go on to suffer another humiliating defeat.

Second half goals from Anthony Martial (2), Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James saw Man United win 9-0.

That equals the record for highest ever Premier League victory.

That's twice Southampton have been defeated 9-0 in England's top tier, having suffered a defeat by the same scoreline to Leicester City just last season.
