Arsenal will target Gary Cahill after missing out on signing Phil Jones from Blackburn Rovers, according to the Evening Standard.

The Gunners lost out to Manchester United in a bid to sign Jones on Wednesday and have turned their attention to Cahill to help bolster their defensive options.

But Arsenal face competition from Manchester City for his signature.

With Owen Coyle resigned to loosing Cahill, Arsenal are set to swoop for who reports call the club's 'No.1 target' this summer.

The fee for Cahill is expected to be around £17 million.

Arsene Wenger has already added one man to his defence with Carl Jenkinson signing from Charlton Athletic for Arsenal on Wednesday.
