Bradford have completed the free signing of experienced defender Guy Branston from Torquay.

The 32-year-old, who has played for seven different clubs during a 14-year career, has signed a two-year deal at Valley Parade having turned down a new contract at Plainmoor.

Bradford manager Peter Jackson said: "I'm delighted that we've managed to sign Guy. I think he will prove to be a terrific signing for the club."

He added: "He will offer us a lot on and off the field because he's a real leader. He's a winner and a real inspiration to players around him. I felt that last season we needed a leader in the dressing room and now we've got one."

Branston, Torquay's player of the year and also included in the PFA's League Two team of the year, played in the Devon club's play-off final defeat to Stevenage last month and is Jackson's second signing of the summer following the arrival of Ross Hannah from non-league Matlock on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Bantams midfielder Tommy Doherty has joined Blue Square Bet Premier side Newport County on a free transfer after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
