Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has found some form in recent weeks.

The Gabonese striker has scored six goals in his last six games for Arsenal.

In his last Premier League game, he notched a brilliant hat-trick in a 4-2 victory over Leeds.

But he didn't have his shooting boots on early against Benfica.

Aubameyang was, of course, in the starting line-up for Arsenal's Europa League last-32 first-leg tie in Portugal.

But he spurned a golden opportunity to break the deadlock for his side.

Hector Bellerin made his way down the right-hand side and squared a ball into the box.

Aubameyang found himself a few yards out and with the goal at his mercy.

All he had to do was tap the ball into the net. It really did look harder to miss than score.

But the former Dortmund striker could only skew his effort wide in what was a dismal miss.

He won't want to watch that again.

Aubameyang is an incredible striker who has been in great form recently.

But someone of his standard should be burying that.

Ray Parlour sung Aubameyang's praises earlier in the week, saying he could get into Arsenal's famous Invincibles side.

“One-on-ones he’s very good at, he doesn’t miss a lot,” he said on talkSPORT.

“He went through that barren spell after signing a new contract but everyone goes through a bad spell and he proved against Leeds that he’s a top striker. Hopefully he can carry on until the end of the season.

“Certainly in our Invincibles team and our 2001/02 team he’d be a great addition. Even if he didn’t start the game, imagine bringing Aubameyang off the bench.

“We used to bring Sylvain Wiltord and Nwankwo Kanu, two great strikers, off the bench and Aubameyang would certainly be in that squad and probably play a lot of the games as well. He’s been a brilliant player for Arsenal.”
