Newcastle look set to confirm their second signing of the season in the next 24 hours, with the BBC reporting that Demba Ba is set to agree to a deal with the northern club.

Newcastle have long been chasing the striker, and particularly after West Ham were relegated at the end of the season, Demba Ba looks set to be part of a long term replacement for the departing Kevin Nolan.

Alan Pardew said today that more signings will be taking place this summer, as Newcastle look to move back into the European football circle once more.

"We are looking to complete on a number of deals over the next month or so," Pardew told the Shields Gazette.

"I am sure with the quality of signings I anticipate coming into the club, we should look forward to exciting times in the upcoming season as we look to establish the club as a genuine force in the top half of the Premier League."

The Newcastle squad is currently undergoing a big shake up in the transfer period, with exits looking likely from Joey Barton, Jose Enrique and a done deal for Kevin Nolan. The incoming of Johan Cabaye and imminent signing of Neil Taylor also look to be part of big changes at the Toon.

While Bemba Ba appeared to be headed for Everton, Newcastle are now outstanding favourites to land the star.
