Arsenal are keeping a close eye on German youngster Samed Yesil, it has been claimed.

According to talkSPORT, the north London club have been monitoring the 17-year-old striker, who has turned the heads of a number of clubs after scoring 24 times in 21 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen under-19s last season.

Yesil took his fine form into the under-17 European Championships earlier this year - having scored six times during the qualification process - ending the tournament with the Golden Boot as Germany were knocked out by Holland.

His goalscoring exploits appear to have impressed Arsenal representatives and the Gunners may reportedly lodge their interest in the teenager with Leverkusen this summer.

The acquisition of a player with no first-team experience may not be the news Arsenal fans necessarily want to hear during the transfer window, but completing a deal for Yesil would be quite a coup for the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger, however, is currently more focused investing in his senior squad as the Arsenal boss attempts to ensure next season isn't a seventh successive one without silverware.

Arsenal have already tied up for a deal for highly-rated Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson, while Lille attacker Gervinho would appear set to become the next new face to move to the Emirates Stadium.

And, today, reports suggest Arsenal are considering a surprise swoop for out-of-favour Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.
