Wigan Athletic will take a fresh approach to the 2011/12 campaign, kicking off the season with their opening three fixtures against all of the newly promoted teams.

Roberto Martinez's side will host last year's Championship runners-up Norwich City at the DW Stadium for the season opener on 13 August.

A week later, the Latics visit Martinez's former club Swansea City, a fitting game for the hosts first ever Barclays Premier League encounter at the Liberty Stadium.

QPR complete the list of top-flight newcomers on 27 August, with Wigan hoping to establish some early season momentum at home to Neil Warnock's side.

Wigan fans will look forward to a Boxing Day trip to reigning champions Manchester United with the reverse fixture seeing the Latics host Sir Alex Ferguson's side on Easter Monday 9 April.

The north east derby sees Bolton Wanderers visit Wigan on 15 October with the Reebok Stadium return provisionally scheduled for 11 February.

Other standout fixtures sees Martinez's side host Chelsea on 17 December before facing tricky home encounters against Manchester City (14 January) and Arsenal (14 April).

The end-of-season run-in sees Wigan visit Ewood Park for a difficult tie against Blackburn Rovers before hosting Wolves on 13 May, the final day of the season that will also represent another landmark in the club's 1,500th league game.
