Jamie Cureton has held talks over a possible return to Bristol Rovers, with Exeter boss Paul Tisdale admitting he is unlikely to be able to hang on to the striker.

New Rovers manager Paul Buckle has made no secret of his admiration for Cureton, who held contract talks with the Grecians at the end of last season but has not signed a new deal at St James Park.

"I have spoken to Jamie two or three times now and he is very enthusiastic," said Buckle. "All football clubs have their heroes and I know Jamie is a hero here and loved by the fans."

He added: "But I have to distance myself from that a bit and think whether he would be the right player for the club and whether the club would be the right thing for Jamie, and the more I've thought about it, the more I like the idea."

Cureton scored 72 goals in 176 league appearances for Rovers between 1996 and 2000 and Buckle is keen to bring the 35-year-old back to the Memorial Stadium for a second spell.

Tisdale would love to hang on to Cureton but he told the Bristol Evening Post: "I don't think it is going to happen. If it was, I suspect it would have happened by now."
