Best still to come from United’s dynamic duo

Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez have already struck up a lethal partnership and, according to Manchester United goalscoring legend Andy Cole, they are going to get even better.

Dimitar Berbatov and Rooney started last season as Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice strike duo, and Hernandez was initially restricted to a role as an impact substitute.

But Chicharito's knack for scoring important goals soon worked in his favour, as the United boss began to give the young Mexican a more regular starting berth - which in turn appeared to give a new lease of life to Rooney.

The 25-year-old scored 14 times after January 1 - with Hernandez netting 13 times during the same period - as Fergie's choice to bench Berbatov paid serious dividends. Almost by accident, the great man had found the perfect partnership.

Rooney and Hernandez led United's charge towards a record 19th title and a place in the Champions League final and Cole believes things can only get better for the Red Devils' strike force.

“Chicharito is a very talented player, especially having come from South America. He’s young and full of talent," said the ex-Old Trafford hero.

“Well, as for Rooney, he’s phenomenon,” he added. “This partnership will only get better and that’s good news for United.”
