Fabian Delph has vowed to bounce back from his injury nightmare better and stronger than before as he bids to repay the faith shown in him by his Villa paymasters.

The former Leeds United starlet endured a difficult debut season with the Villains following an anterior cruciate ligament injury, and again picked up injuries against Manchester City in December and Liverpool on the final day of the season.

However, the 21-year-old is desperate to force his way back into the first team under new manager Alex McLeish, and is confident an injury-free spell is just around the corner.

"I think I'm due an injury-free season so hopefully this year will be the one. It has been up and down for me since I have joined but I've stayed positive and I think I have got stronger mentally," Delph told the official Aston Villa TV channel.

"Hopefully I can break through and do the proud and repay the chairman for the contract that he has given me in the past."

The England youth international also paid tribute to Carlos Cuellar, who has helped him through the tough times when together on the treatment table at Villa Park.

"With Carlos around every day is entertaining. He has had a knee operation and his spirit is so high. His motivation and desire to get back fit just makes me look up to him as a professional," continued Delph.

"He is still the same chirpy guy who is joking and laughing every two minutes.

"That helps. If you are here alone you are dragging yourself through it where as if there is somebody else who is injured and working with you it keeps your spirits high and helps you push on."
