Jose Enrique’s agent has hinted that the star is still open to talks with other clubs, as Arsenal look to replace outgoing left-back Gael Clichy.

“He is back at Newcastle now, and he is going to start pre-season with them," Salvador Sanchez said.

"We just have to wait and see what happens. Our policy is not to make any comments about the situation though."

Enrique has always been connected Arsenal, but with Clichy signing for Manchester City yesterday, Arsene Wenger has had to step up his chase for a left-back signing, and Talksport claims that Enrique could indeed be a Clichy replacement.

While Arsenal face competition from Liverpool to garner Enrique’s signature, the Gunners can offer European football as a carrot which will no doubt tempt the Spaniard to move to London.

And with the Sun newspaper rating Enrique at £8 million, Arsenal would only need to outlay minimum cash from the £7 million deal for Clichy to make the purchase.
